Becoming Cousteau Movie Review
Capsule Rview: If you’re a kid of the 80s, like me, you probably grew up knowing the name Jacques Cousteau, that he was a sea explorer, and… not much else. If you fall into that camp, the documentary Becoming Cousteau is a helpful exploration of the man, the myth, the legend, from his early days as an inventor and curious adventurer who would throw grenades into the ocean to capture fish and kill sharks to study them to his later years, with decades of experience under his belt, as a conservationist and advocate for preservation.
There’s nothing groundbreaking about Becoming Cousteau, but it’s a detailed, efficiently told biography that makes you feel as if you understand the man—and why he became the sensation he became—warts et al. Recommended.
