Inside Deep Throat Movie Review

Now available on Blu-ray and DVD (Buy on Amazon)

Funny, intriguing and a bit scary, "Inside Deep Throat" is not a magnificent documentary, but it is a good one. About the popular porn film and the political events that followed, "Inside" paints a scary vision of censorship and intolerance that is eerily reminiscent of today's society.

The film looks at the events surrounding "Deep Throat," one of the most popular movies of all time (which I'll admit I haven't seen), including the production of the product, the rise and fall of the stars, and the massive political outcry that stretched all the way to President Nixon. After all, Nixon was Mr. Morality. I knew little about the film and even less about the war that was waged because of it; of course, the movie is a bit biased in its views, but I hate censorship in any way or form.

Parts of the movie will make you laugh, others will make you cry... Wait, actually it won't make you cry, but it will make you think. Just like today where the FCC is clamping down on television stations for showing too much sex or Janet Jackson is causing such a fuss, the era when "Deep Throat" came out was massively volatile and not favorable of freedom of speech. I'm no proponent of porn, but the government shouldn't regulate such stuff. Basically, it's a waste of the government's time to concern itself with such things.

If you're into political criticisms as I am, you'll definitely enjoy "Inside Deep Throat." It never moved me the way really good documentaries do, but it still had me thinking. And it has nudity.
