Jakob's Wife Movie Review

A deliciously entertaining and blood-splattered romp, Jakob’s Wife is a creative, unique vampire story, in which the wife of a pastor starts to turn into a creature of the night, leaving a wake of dead bodies but also injecting new passion into their stale marriage.

From director Travis Stevens, Jakob’s Wife wears its presumably low budget with pride while still delivering a fully realized and confident experience. With some great gore, but also a surprisingly heartfelt and endearing story and characters, it’s a film that is easy to like. Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Re-Animator) makes for a great protagonist, a woman who wakes up one day knowing what she really wants and needs in life (or something other than life) and goes for it.

You should go for it, too.

This movie was reviewed as part of coverage for the 2021 SXSW Film Festival.
