Mortal Engines Movie Review
Capsule Review: Having made only $15 million domestically against a $100 million budget, Mortal Engines was one of the bigger flops of 2018, and understandably so: set in a dystopian future where cities roll around on wheels and gobble up smaller moving communities (it’s never explained why these cities roll around) and featuring a largely unrecognizable cast, the Peter Jackson-produced action film just never stood much of a chance.
Mortal Engines boasts plenty of action and a fast-moving script, but there’s nothing particularly memorable about any of it. It plays like an epic wannabe, an intriguing concept brought to life with decent special effects but not much vision for anything beyond that. Watch Howl’s Moving Castle instead.
