Paw Patrol: The Movie Movie Review
If you can rate a movie based on how much it holds the attention of a three-year-old, Paw Patrol: The Movie gets five stars. Clocking in at a parent- and kid-friendly 88 minutes, my daughter was enthralled for approximately 95% of the theatrical version of her favorite TV show, which puts it right up there with The Little Mermaid.
As for those of us who aren’t under five, Paw Patrol proves to be a surprisingly entertaining and enjoyable little picture that expands upon the 25-minute episode format while holding true to all of the elements that make the show so popular.
While aimed at younger kids than any film I’ve reviewed before—it certainly lacks the innuendo and major references to things that typically get adults laughing regardless of their parental status—Paw Patrol thankfully is a more than tolerable excursion. And by that I mean it isn’t at all insulting to the brain. It isn’t offensively dumb or rudimentary or incomprehensible; it has a legitimate plot, decent (and of course upgraded-from-the-show) visual effects, and enough humor and action that you can stay tuned in without wanting to bash your head in.
But lowest-functioning bar is not the benchmark this little adventure film strives for. Paw Patrol: The Movie is a legitimately fun movie for young kids—and families with young kids, too.
