Hush Movie Synopsis & Plot
Helen has met the man of her dreams. Handsome, loving; and from a well-to-do family, Jackson Baring is a young professional with a bright future on Wall Street. When Jackson takes Helen home for the holidays to Kilronan, his mother's sprawling horse breeding estate in the lush Kentucky countryside, she is awestruck by the stately, resplendent farmhouse that seems the ideal spot for a picture-postcard Christmas. At Kilronan, Helen meets Martha Baring, Jackson's mother and 'the other woman' in his life. A radiant widow passionately devoted to her only son, Martha's genteel Southern charm spills over like molasses. Having grown up without parents, Helen instantly warms to this impressive woman, the larger-than-life grand dame of Kilronan who has single-handedly held the farm together since Jackson's father's death.
Beneath Martha's refined Kentucky smile, however, lurks a woman with an agenda - to bring her son back to Kentucky to take over his birthright, Kilronan. The one threat to Martha's plan is her son's new lover, whose dream of domestic happiness is about to become a nightmare. Put directly in Martha's unforgiving path, Helen becomes little more than a puppet with her mother-in-law pulling the strings. Soon, she begins to suspect that Martha has engineered a variety of troubling coincidences around the estate and has told lies to cause several misunderstandings between the newlyweds...
Slowly, Helen learns that Martha's seemingly innocuous over-mothering masks a deeply distressed woman who needs to control those around her. As Martha's manipulations escalate, Helen is lured into a vicious web of deceit and betrayal until she discovers, almost too late, that her mother-in-law is not only disturbed but dangerous.
Ultimately, the young woman finds herself trapped in a desperate fight for her marriage. her newborn baby and, finally, for her very life in the fiery conclusion of Hush.
