A masked killer stalks a bunch of teenagers in a small town, but especially plays with one girl, Sidney Prescott. As the media and police converge, it becomes apparent that the killer's love for horror movies has pushed him far over the edge.

Many years ago, the first slasher films appeared and soon after, their sequels. And as the directors continued to pop out more and more of these movies, relying on the success of their predecessors, the quality began to degrade until there was nothing of value. But now, Scream has wakened the genre, setting a new standard for slasher films.
