She's All That Movie Synopsis & Plot
If romance is a mystery, there's only one way to figure it out.
"SHE'S ALL THAT" is a witty and charming romantic comedy set in the capricious world of a trendy Los Angeles High School. Here amidst the designer ensembles, the lavish parties, the hilarious high school pranks, the day-to-day rivalries and the peer pressure cooker of the senior prom, the social order is about to unravel.
Senior class power couple Zack (FREDDIE PRINZE, JR.) and Taylor (JODI LYN O'KEEFE)--the last remaining love match from freshman year-are on the outs. They were the "it" couple that everyone thought would stay together forever, but not so, for during Spring Break, the social-climbing Taylor dumped Zack for a new guy, Brock Hudson (Matthew Lillard) - a self-absorbed "celebrity" from "The Real World."
This is the kind of news that could devastate a player like Zack, class president, honor student and captain of the soccer team - especially with school Dj (USHER RAYMOND) providing the student body with an ongoing commentary on the turn of events. But Zack rebounds, betting his rivalrous best friend Dean (Paul Walker) that any girl-with the right hair and make-up-can be made into the prom queen. As the rules of the bet dictate, Dean will pick the girl which Zack must elevate to senior class royalty.
Into their sights and into the bet stumbles social zero Laney Boggs (RACHAEL LEIGH COOK). Perpetually paint splattered from the angry art she creates in the family basement, this tightly wound senior doesn't have time for trivialities like make-up, gossip and guys. She anguishes over Bosnia and shuns chemically-preserved food.
Propelled into adulthood with the loss of her mom ten years ago-she looks after her dad (KEVIN POLLAK) and her wacky brother Simon (KIERAN CULKIN) while working a job at a cheesy fast food restaurant. She needs an art school scholarship and isn't about to let anything distract her.
Least of all Zack. For all his charm, the inaccessible Laney will barely cast him a glance. Still, she can't seem to scare this tenacious guy off. As the weeks leading to the prom fly by, an unexpected friendship grows between Laney and Zack - a friendship that seems to change them both. As Laney sheds a bit of her armor, she begins to attract allies, including Zack's savvy little sister Mack (ANNA PAQUIN) and all those Harrison outsiders who suddenly take an interest in the prom queen competition. And, as Zack attempts to raise her up to his vaunted, popular status, he instead finds himself falling-for the down-to-earth and non-conformist Laney Boggs.
