In October of 1988, a jet engine crashes through the wall of Donnie Darko's bedroom. Luckily, he had been lured to a golf course the night before by a vision of a man in a demented rabbit costume. The FAA reports that no plane crashed, so Donnie goes on with his freakish life, a blend of a superior intellect and psychotic episodes, helped partially by his severe anti-depressant medicine. But his visions of the rabbit come over often, and it tells him to do things he normally wouldn't do. It also notifies him that the world will be destroyed at the end of the month.
